Gregoria Mariska Tunjung's Last Stage

Gregoria Mariska Tunjung will not participate in the tournament after the Indonesia Open 2024 (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA Indonesia Open 2024 has become Gregoria Mariska Tunjung's last stage before the 2024 Paris Olympics in the middle of this year.

The 2017 junior world champion will not play any more tournaments after losing to Wang Zhi Yi in the quarter-finals of the Indonesia Open 2024, Friday, June 7, 2024, WIB night.

The women's singles coach, Indra Widjaja, said that Gregoria would miss the 2024 Australian Open next week and fully focus on preparing for Paris later.

"It is certain not (to appear in the Australian Open 2024) because the calculation of securing the eighth seed is certainly safe."

"So, stop here (Indonesia Open 2024). Longer preparation, recovery, training can be maximized until later departure for the Olympics (Paris 2024). This is the last tournament," said Indra.

Gregoria is one of six Red-White representatives at the Indonesia Open 2024 who have confirmed themselves to appear at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Of the six representatives, only he was able to travel the farthest in the quarter-finals of the Indonesia Open 2024. The rest ran aground in the first and second rounds.

Indra said that there were no more tournaments that Gregoria faced before going to Paris. Gregoria will undergo intense training at the PBSI Cipayung National Training Center later.

"Yes, (training) as usual. What is certain is that it is more about the condition, recovery, and everything is taken care of. So, it is quite long," he said.

The 2024 Paris Olympics are the second Olympics for Gregoria. Previously, the badminton player from Wonogiri had already appeared at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

At that time, Gregoria's journey only reached the last 16. He came home without a medal after losing against Thailand's singles, Ratchanok Intanon.
