After Reviewing SUGBK, PSSI Ensures Grass Is Safe For Indonesia Vs Iraq Match

JAKARTA - PSSI General Chairperson (Ketum), Erick Thohir, explained the latest situation of grass at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUBK) ahead of the Indonesia vs Iraq national team match. According to him, currently all aspects are in good condition.

The Indonesian national team will face Iraq in the second round of the 2026 World Cup Qualification. The match will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2024, afternoon WIB. Erick Thohir conducted an inspection of SUGBK on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, morning WIB.

The inspection was deliberately carried out by the PSSI Ketum to ensure that the venue was ready in everything for tomorrow's match.

As a result, after conducting a review and discussion with the Director of PPKGBK, Rakhmadi Afif Kusumo, Erick Thohir stated that everything was in good condition.

"Okay (the grass condition), okay. The restoration of grass to its original condition is also good because of course, yes, the preparation was there, enough time," said Erick Thohir on Wednesday, June 5, 2024.

Previously, the grass conditions in SUGBK had stolen the attention of Indonesian football lovers. They are worried that the quality of the grass on the grass will decline when used in the match against Iraq.

You see, SUGBK was used for NCT Dream concerts which required the main grass to be closed.

Apart from the current SUGBK condition which is said to be ready, on the same occasion, Erick Thohir also emphasized the importance of PSSI's communication and synergy and PPKGBK.

"Saya sama pak Dirut PPKGBK punya komitmen sama-sama bahwa kita harus terus mempersumat yang namanya jadwal-schedulan agar jangan hanya concert atau hiburan lain-lain yang dipertarikan, tetapi Timnas Indonesia juga harus prioritas," ucap Erick.

Not only about the quality of SUGBK grass, Erick also hopes that the condition of the ABC Field grass and the Madya Stadium will also be well considered. The reason is, in the future, the Indonesian national team will carry out many activities in some of these fields.

"Earlier, we also discussed with him about the training field. We also have to synchronize because we don't have to see the perception later as if the visitors are not served."

"Then we also anticipate that the Indonesian national team should not be injured due to quality (field). Well, this also applies to the training field. He (manager) is committed to that," said Erick regarding improving the quality of the training field grass.
