Indonesia Open 2024 Results: Gregoria Regrets The Duel Vs Putri KW

JAKARTA The women's singles Gregoria Mariska Tunjung regretted the early meeting with her country's compatriot, Putri Kusuma Wardani, in the first round of the Indonesia Open 2024.

The duel between the two lasted for 36 minutes at the Istora Stadium, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at noon WIB. Gregoria won the match in two straight games with a score of 21-14 and 21-17.

The second badminton player should not face off in the initial draw. However, the changes in the draw made the two immediately meet.

"So, like it or not, we have to meet with him," said Gregoria after the match.

Gregoria considered that in their first competitive clash, Putri had not been able to bring out all her best abilities.

"Hopefully from this match he can learn more," said the 2017 junior world champion.

In the second half, Gregoria will meet Thailand's women's singles, Supanida Katethong, the opponent she has beaten five times in the previous seven meetings.

From the women's singles, before Gregoria, tickets for the second round of the Indonesia Open 2024 were already pocketed by Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo.

The 18-year-old badminton player made a sweet debut in the BWF Super 1000 level tournament by defeating former Japanese champion Nozomi Okuhara.

Gregoria and Ester automatically became the two Indonesian women's singles left in the tournament. The reason is, from that sector, only Ester and Gregoria and Putri played at the Indonesia Open 2024.

If both can get through the second half then Ester and Gregoria will face each other in the quarter-finals.

In the second half, Ester will meet sixth seed from China, Wang Zhi Yi. This single has beaten Ester twice in their two competitive meetings this year.
