JAKARTA The Menpora Aquabike Indonesia Championship 2024/2025 Cup will be used to capture and prepare athletes for the Aquabike World Championship (AWC).

The series of the Menpora Aquabike Cup has only been held in one series. There are still four other series left before the 2024 AWC event was held in November 2024.

The Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Dito Ariotedjo, said that this national series was an opportunity for Indonesian riders to finalize preparations.

"Indonesia gets 10 wildcards. Therefore, the activities of its national series titled Menpora Aquabike Cup are used to prepare and find riders who will race at the World Championships later," said Dito.

The first series of the Menpora Aquabike Cup was previously held on March 2-3, 2024 in Balige, Toba Regency, North Sumatra.

Then Samosir Regency, North Sumatra, will be trusted to hold the second series in June 2024. Following that, the third series in North Sulawesi in August 2024, and the fourth series took place in Makassar, South Sulawesi.

Dito said that the fifth series will take place in September 2024 and will be held by Jakarta in collaboration with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.

"The DKI Provincial Government has a jetski place that was built for the Asian Games (2018). So, later the Aquabike will be held there because the facilities are world-class and international standard," said Dito.

Indonesia previously had a commitment to hold aquabike world championship until 2027.

Indonesia's success in holding a world championship in November 2023 has made it possible to have the trust to host it.

Dito said that in the future Indonesia also needs to prepare aquabike athletes in the long-term program.

"This can be one of the focuses of IMI (Indonesian Motorcycle Association) because we are trusted to host, so we should be able to take part in riders from Indonesia later," he said.
