In a follow-up match of the 2024 Volleyball Nations League which took place at the Maracanaturzinho Stadium, Rio De Jeneiro, Friday, Marlon Yant brought Cuba back to surprise after overthrowing the host Brazil and now beating Germany.
In the match against Germany, Cuban striker Marlon Yant became the most point contributor by recording 21 points (17 punches, three blocks and one service force) followed by Miguel Angel Lopez who recorded 18 points (17 punches and one block).
"We came to this game with confidence because we knew it would be an important game for us," Cuban MIddle blocker Robertlandy Sim way was quoted as saying by Volleyball World, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, May 24.
"It was a big win today, but now is the time for us to focus on the next game. I wish Yant a happy birthday this morning, but we didn't have a party for him because our goal here is to qualify for the Olympics. Japan is a very difficult battle for us and we have to be very focused," said Robertlandy Simon.
This victory keeps Cuba's hopes of advancing to Paris after adding to the additional 7.18 points and is now ranked 9th with 256.85 points.
The volleyball qualifying system for the 2024 Paris Olympics uses the FIVB world ranking system. The top 12 teams will be confirmed to qualify automatically to accompany the hosts.
