Jeremie Frimpong Saves Bayer Leverkusen's Unbeaten Record

JAKARTA - Bayer Leverkusen's unbeaten record almost broke against West Ham United in the second match of the Europa League quarter-finals at London Stadium, Friday, April 19, 2024 in the morning WIB. Defender Jeremie Frimpong's goal saved Leverkusen and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Leverkusen kept the record unbeaten as they grabbed Germany's Bundesliga title. Entering the 29th week, Leverkusen beat Werder Bremen 5-0 to ensure the league title for the first time in the club's history.

Until the 29th match in the domestic competition, Leverkusen has won 25 times and only played four draws without losing.

The record continues in the Europa League. Xabi Alonso's team have never lost in European competition until their first match against West Ham, they won 2-0.

It's just that in the second match, David Moyes' team immediately pressed the opponent. West Ham, who must win at least 3-0, must work extra hard.

The Hammers' efforts had given good results. Striker Michail Antonio managed to score a goal after his header which met Jarrod Bowen's pass beat goalkeeper Matej Kovar in the 13th minute.

Furthermore, West Ham again had a chance through Mohammed Kudus and Bowen. But their efforts still failed.

On the other hand, Leverkusen managed to equalize the score towards the end of the match.

Frimpong's hard kick hit West Ham defender Aaron Cresswell so he turned around a bit and then outwitted goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski in the 89th minute.

The score changed 1-1 and lasted until the end of the match. Leverkusen also set an unbeaten record for 44 matches in various competitions.

"Our stability and intensity were not good enough, especially in the first half. We also lacked courage in the duel. But in the second half our game became better and could master the game," said Alonso when responding to the results of the match.
