JAKARTA Indonesian men's singles badminton player, Jonatan Christie, feels increasingly challenged after being ranked third in the world.

Jonathan has now shot up to third in the world on the list of the World Badminton Federation (BWF) rankings that are most new this week.

"The response, yes, must be happy and actually more of a challenge too," said Jonathan when met at the Cipayung National Training Center, East Jakarta, Wednesday, April 17, 2024.

Jonathan moved up to third after he won All England and Badminton Asia Championship (BAC) 2024. He now collects 89,211 points.

He is behind the Chinese men's singles, Shi Yuqi, in second and singles Denmark, Viktor Axelsen, who is ranked the world's highest.

Jonathan hopes that in the future he can maintain his consistency. The position he currently has will automatically add to the burden on his shoulders.

"It can or can't be more consistent, it can or can't take better care of its performance and game, whether it's possible or not to be more mature in the future. I'm more in that direction for personal use," he said.

Jonathan himself has confirmed that he will qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics which will take place in the middle of this year. He is one of six badminton athletes who qualified there. From the men's singles number, Jonathan qualified with Anthony Sinisuka Ginting.

The other four representatives are Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari, and Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti.
