Jonathan Christie Surprised To Win All England And BAC 2024 In The Near Future

JAKARTA Men's singles Jonatan Christie did not expect himself to come out as a champion in the 2024 Badminton Asia Championship (BAC).

The third seed of the tournament brought home the title after winning two straight games 21-15 and 21-16 over co-host Li Shi Feng, Sunday, April 14 evening WIB.

This is his second consecutive title in the two most recent tournaments he has participated in. Earlier in March, he bagged a title from the world's oldest tournament, All England.

"I didn't expect to be able to win again after yesterday's All England champion," Jonatan said after the match as quoted in PBSI's toughness.

Previously Jonathan had a gloomy start to the year before the two big titles above. In the four tournaments before All England and BAC, his furthest journey was the second half.

Jonathan said that the two consecutive titles he got would be an encouragement. He hopes to be consistent in the next tournaments.

“Bisa menjadi booster penambah semangat buat saya pribadi agar ke depannya bisa lebih konsisten dan lebih baik lagi dalam hal performance dan segalanya,” ujar Jonatan.

Jonathan has only lost one game in five games at the 2024 BAC. It happened to him against first seed Shi Yu Qi in the semifinals.

At that time, Jonathan trailed 18-21 in the first game. He then reversed the position by winning 21-19 and 21-12 in the next two games.

This is Jonathan's first title in the Badminton Asia Championships (BAC). He had previously reached the final in 2022, but eventually became runner up.

This Jonathan title made Indonesia maintain the status of the BAC men's singles champion. In the BAC 2023 edition, the title in the men's singles was brought home by Anthony Sinisuka Ginting.
