Surprise In Europa League, Liverpool Defeated Against Atalanta

JAKARTA - Liverpool surprisingly lost 3-0 against Atalanta in the first match of the Europa League quarter-finals. Ironically, the defeat occurred at Liverpool's home at Anfield Stadium, Friday, April 12, 2024 in the morning WIB.

Liverpool, who were so strong when they appeared at Anfield, even limped against Atalanta. They didn't move at all to face the effective game of the Italian Serie A team.

The defeat could thwart Liverpool's ambition to win trebles. Previously, Liverpool had won the Carabao Cup and still had the opportunity to win the English Premier League trophy.

However, the Reds are in tight competition with Arsenal who are in first place and Manchester City are in second place. Meanwhile, Liverpool itself is in second place.

The threat of failure to win three trophies is because Liverpool have to work extra hard in the second match at home to Atalanta.

On the other hand, Atalanta has stepped halfway into the semifinals. They just need a draw to qualify. Even the 1-0 or 2-0 defeat could still bring Gian Piero Gasperini's side to the top four.

When Liverpool were in an attacking position, they were surprised by Gianluca Scamacca breaking the deadlock.

The Atalanta striker met Davide Zappacosta's cross to beat goalkeeper Caoimh pastel Kel's neck in the 38th minute.

The score 1-0 for Atalanta and lasted until halftime. The reason is that no additional goals were created during the first 45 minutes.

In the second half, Juergen Klopp's men tried to get up. But Atalanta's strong defense made it difficult for them to score. Although possession reaches 70%, the chances of the hosts can never be converted into goals.
