JAKARTA - Tickets for the opening race of the Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix this month will be available only to spectators who have been injected with the COVID-19 vaccine or who have recovered from the disease.
Formula 1 will kick off the 2021 season at the Bahrain International Circuit on March 28.
"To ensure this event can run in a safe environment and line with government health advice, tickets will only be available to individuals who have been vaccinated or recovered from COVID-19", the Bahrain International Circuit authorities said in an official statement quoted by Antara, Friday, March 5.
Only people who have been given a second dose of vaccine at least two weeks from the race schedule and those who have recovered from COVID-19, at least two weeks from the date of infection, are allowed to watch the Grand Prix.
Wearing a mask and keeping your distance will be mandatory.
Bahrain, which will also hold pre-season tests on March 12-14, has offered F1 personnel to be vaccinated.
However, many rejected the offer to avoid being thought of "skipping the queue" of vaccinations because most of the competing teams are based in England and a small part in mainland Europe.
Last year, F1 held most of their races behind closed doors due to the pandemic.
