JAKARTA The women's singles badminton player Gregoria Mariska Tunjung suffered a dramatic defeat against Akane Yamaguchi in the quarter-finals of All England 2024.

Gregoria was forced to surrender with scores 10-21, 22-20, and 18-21 from the Japanese mainstay women's singles at Utilita Arena, Birmingham, England, Friday, March 15, 2024, evening WIB.

In the first game, Gregoria had the opportunity to produce two consecutive points. However, Yamaguchi got up and scored 12 consecutive points.

Gregoria then replied by generating five points to cut the distance. However, the Japanese ambassador, who once ranked first in the world, could no longer be blocked afterwards.

The second game match was much fiercer. Gregoria was narrowly behind 8-9 before scoring five points to outperform her opponent 13-9.

After that, Gregoria was chased by Yamaguchi who got up and took the lead 20-18. In that position, the Indonesian mainstay women's singles did not give up.

He was able to rise to produce four consecutive points to force the former 26-year-old world champion to play the deciding game.

In the last game, the two badminton players again played tough matches. The pursuit of the numbers was presented from the start until Gregoria led a narrow advantage of just one point in the interval.

After the break, Gregoria continued to bring out all her abilities and lead 15-12. Unfortunately, after that Yamaguchi got up and forced the badminton player from Wonogiri to lift the suitcase.
