French Results Open 2024: Jonathan Immediately Falls

Jonathan Christie was stopped in the first round of the French Open 2024 (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA Jonathan Christie certainly failed to defend his title after losing immediately in the first round of the French Open 2024.

The 26-year-old badminton player lifted his suitcase earlier after losing to the rubber games 21-12, 21-23, and 17-21 against Wang Tzu Wei, Wednesday, March 6, 2024, early morning WIB.

"The results are not what I expected. Preparations for one month are very good, but the results are opposite," said Jonathan.

Jonathan performed well in the first set. He can even lead an eight-digit lead in the interval. However, in the next two games he made a lot of mistakes himself.

This is Jonathan's eighth defeat against Wang out of a total of 14 of their competitive meetings since Japan Open 2015.

"In the first game it was quite good, the second game was still good at the beginning. In the third game it really affected when I threw away 3-4 consecutive points, made my own mistakes. My reaction was too late. So, the points were too far to be chased," said Jonathan.

"It's not easy because the beginning should be a momentum towards the Olympics (Paris 2024). However, I definitely want to get up. That's all I can say now," he said.

Apart from Jonathan, the mixed doubles pair Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari also fell in the first round of the BWF Super 750 level event.

Indonesia has now secured three tickets to the second half. The tickets were pocketed by Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, and Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti.
