Indonesian Beautiful Jumping Legend Lanny Gumulya Dies

JAKARTA - Indonesian sports are grieving. The legend of the Indonesian beautiful jump, Lanny Gumulya Kartadinata, died on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at night at 21/04 WIB.

The plan is for the cremation procession to be held on Monday, March 4, 2024.

Chairman of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), Marciano Norman, expressed his condolences.

"I, the Head of the Central KONI, express my deep condolences for the death of Mrs. Lanny Gumulya Kartadinata, an Indonesian beautiful jumping legend. May the deceased get the best place in the side of Almighty God. The family left behind will be given strength," he said.

"Goodbye Indonesian Sports Patriot. Your struggle to make the nation and country proud through sports in the world arena, we will continue," he said.

The late Lanny Gumulya is the gold medalist in the 1962 Asian Games IV gold medal in Jakarta. Until now, he is the only Indonesian diving athlete who has won a gold medal since the 1962 Asian Games.

The figure of Lanny Gumulya received respect from President Soekarno. His middle name, Gumulya, was given by the first President of Indonesia during a visit to the Bandung Training Center.

Gumulya is short for Mulya's Goei. The name was taken from the legend's real name, namely Goei Giok Lan.

Meanwhile, Lanny Gumulya became the 18th edition of the 2018 Asian Games torch bearer in Jakarta, precisely at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK). Gelora Bung Karno was a historic place for Lanny when he presented gold for Indonesia at the fourth Asian Games in 1962.
