South Korea Looking For New Coach Figure, Shin Tae-yong Is On The List

Shin Tae-yong is a candidate to replace Jurgen Klinsmann in the South Korean national team (doc. AFC).

JAKARTA - The South Korean national team is looking for a replacement for their head coach, Julian Klinsmann. The name of the Indonesian national team coach, Shin Tae-yong, is said to be on the list of potential replacements.

Citing News 1 on Friday, February 23, 2024, news that Shin Tae-yong was on the list of Substitutes for Klinsmann was known from Jeong Hae-seong's statement, Chairman of the Korean Football Federation Strengthening Committee (KFA).

At a press conference session that took place on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, Jeong said the new South Korean coach was certainly not a foreigner. The selected coaches are not only domestically active, but also abroad.

"We open the possibility to all domestic and foreign trainers for the national team. As a result of today's meeting, we will elect a domestic coach," said Jeong.

Although they did not specify names, the news said there were four names of candidates who were strong candidates. The four names are considered the most appropriate to improve the current condition of the South Korean national team.

The source said that the coaches on the list were Hong Myung-bo, Hwang Seo-hong, Choi Yong-soo, and Shin Tae-yong. The names of the four replacement candidates are now being discussed intensively.

Meanwhile, Jeong revealed the conditions applied to find a new coach. KFA will choose a coach who has tactics, rich in experience, smooth communication, leadership, and the ability to form a strong coaching staff.

Hong Myung-bo as coach of Ulsan Hyundai is considered to have the greatest potential. Ulsan is considered to have the most prominent style of play under Hong's tutelage.

As a former coach of the Warriors, Hong's achievements are also classy. One of them won a bronze medal in the 2012 Olympic soccer sport.

Talking about experience, Shin Tae-yong's name also entered into strong candidates. The reason is, he was noted to have brought South Korea to be fierce in the 2018 World Cup and made the Indonesian national team more reckoned with in the 2023 Asian Cup.

Regarding KFA's interest in Shin Tae-yong, there are loopholes that they can take advantage of to attract the coach. The reason is, it is known that Shin's contract with PSSI is only a matter of months, even though the coach still has to handle the U-23 Indonesian national team in the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup.
