PBSI Reluctant To Promise Gold Medal At The 2024 Paris Olympics

JAKARTA The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) is reluctant to set a target to bring home a gold medal from the 2024 Paris Olympics which will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.

In fact, badminton is still a mainstay sport for Indonesia to get a gold medal in the world's largest four-yearly event. However, in recent tournaments, badminton has shown little spurs.

"So, about how many medals were obtained, I can't give it quantitatively," said Secretary General of PBSI and Chair of the 2024 Paris Olympics Ad Hoc Team, Muhammad Fadil Imran.

"However, as the Chair of the Ad Hoc Team who is trusted to carry out the task so that the golden tradition continues, I will do as much as possible," he said.

In Olympic history, badminton is the sport that has contributed the most gold medals since 1992 in Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain.

Fadli said that for the 2024 Paris Olympics, Indonesia still has the opportunity to maintain the gold medal tradition.

"There is still potential in men's doubles, men's singles, women's singles, women's doubles. As long as the mindset is maintained, we believe there are opportunities from the four sectors," he said.

At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Indonesia is targeting to make history get more than two gold medals for the first time in its participation.

Currently, Indonesia already has six athletes who get tickets to the 2024 Paris Olympics. The number of athletes participating in Paris will definitely increase because there are still qualifications to be followed.
