JAKARTA - Nova Arianto received a new responsibility as coach of the U-16 Indonesian national team. Assistant coach Shin Tae-yong immediately led the inaugural training held Monday, February 19, 2024 at Senayan Field, Jakarta.

The composition of Indonesia U-16 under the tutelage of Nova Arianto is not yet an official squad. This exercise agenda is a selection process that involves many players and is divided into several waves.

"First, we made a selection today. We made it as the first stage. We carried out three waves in this stage and in each wave there were 32 players. So, a total of 100 people in this first stage," said Nova Arianto after leading the training.

Regarding the number of players included in this selection process, Nova revealed that the players came from the Topskor League, Soeratin Cup, and Elite Pro Academy (EPA). In addition, there are also recommendations from academy and soccer school (SSB) coaches.

No wonder, Nova Arianto did not want to waste time in the early training session of the U-16 Indonesian national team considering the large number of players participating in the selection. He immediately set a tight enough target to get quality players.

Nova achieved the target of finding players according to his philosophy. Moreover, currently the players who come still appear in style from where they come from. Regarding other criteria, Nova said height is the most considered.

"Indeed, they (players) mostly play in SSB and academies. So, I see they are still playing with SSB and academy style football."

"However, I want to include them with my philosophy, like how to play football now. I want to choose the right players according to my philosophy, including the criteria for height," said Nova Arianto.

As is known, the U-16 Indonesian national team training camp is prepared for the 2024 AFF U-16 Cup and 2025 U-17 Asian Cup Qualification.

It is not yet known when the two agendas will be held, but the 2024 AFF U-16 Cup will reportedly take place in Indonesia.
