Frustration And Anger, Thomas Tuchel: Bayern Failed Not Lazio Winning

JAKARTA - Bayern Munich were disappointed to fail to win in the first match of the Champions League last 16. The 1-0 defeat against Lazio frustrated coach Thomas Tuchel. Even Tuchel called Bayern a failed and not Lazio a win.

Tuchel assessed that Bayern did not deserve to lose in a duel at the Stadio Olimpico, Rome, Thursday, February 15, 2024 in the morning WIB. They were able to master the game but the situation changed after defender Dayot Upamecano was shown a red card for accepting Gustav Isaksen.

Violations that not only led to red cards but the referee also imposed penalties. The execution was well completed by striker Ciro Immobile.

After that goal, Bayern continued to try to catch up. But their attack never gave a result. Striker Harry Kane did not move again. This is the second time he failed to score.

Previously, he failed to carry out his duties when Bayern lost 3-0 against Bayer Leverkusen in the German Bundesliga competition.

"Of course we are frustrated and angry because of this defeat," Tuchel was quoted as saying on the club's website.

"I don't know why this happened. We failed this match and it wasn't Lazio who won," he said in response to the team's defeat.

The former Chelsea manager said players had several opportunities that could have been converted into goals. According to him Bayern played better in the second half. But they still struggled to penetrate Lazio's defense.

"We had a good chance to score and there were two other chances. But in the end no goals were created," he said.

"In the second half, we played better. We have made every effort but all failed. However, we still have a chance in the second match. We are optimistic that we will advance," said Tuchel again.

The forward Thomas Muller is no less frustrated that Bayern should have taken the lead in the first half. Because they have three chances.

"We should have taken the lead because there were three chances. But none of them can be converted. This result is certainly not according to plan. But we still have a second match," said Muller.

"Of course we are not satisfied with the result. But we will give everything in all competitions," he said.

Bayern need a win in the second match to ensure they qualify for the quarter-finals. Only they have to win at least 2-0 to qualify for the duel at the Allianz Arena Stadium, Munich, March 6, 2024 in the morning WIB.
