Breaking The News Leaving The Indonesian National Team, Shin Tae-yong: Not Even One Percent Interested In Training Other Countries

Shin Tae-yong edged off rumors of leaving the Indonesian national team (doc. PSSI).

JAKARTA - A firm statement was made by the Indonesian national team coach, Shin Tae-yong, about the news that he would leave the team. The South Korean coach stated that he was not at all interested in coaching other countries.

Previously, Shin Tae-yong through a South Korean media admitted that he had been approached by a number of other federations of countries. The report sparked a polemic about the future of the coach with the Garuda Squad.

Moreover, Shin Tae-yong's contract period is also a question along with the end of the Indonesian national team's struggle which was stopped in the round of 16 of the 2023 Asian Cup.

Regarding the news that he would join other countries, Shin Tae-yong denied this. He emphasized that he was not interested in training any country at this time other than focusing on the Garuda Squad.

"I have never been interested in one percent to serve as coach of other heads of state. So, hopefully there will be no misunderstandings," said Shin Tae-yong as quoted by Antara on Monday, February 5, 2024.

Although he did not deny that there were a number of offers that came, Shin Tae-yong emphasized that he was maintaining his commitment to the contract that had been agreed with PSSI.

"Indeed, during my tenure as coach of the Indonesian national team, there were often offers. However, maybe as before we saw it until 2023, meaning the end of the year, yes, so there is already a contract as well."

"So, there is no thought of going to another country either. Indeed, even during this tournament there was an offer, but I absolutely have no interest," said the former South Korean national team coach.

Regarding Shin Tae-yong's tenure, the coach's contract was actually completed at the end of 2023. However, with an agreement with PSSI, he got an extension of work until June 2024.

The coach's contract could even be extended again until 2027. However, regarding the opportunity, PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir gave a professional target, namely that he must be able to bring the U-23 Indonesian national team to qualify for the last eight of the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup in Qatar which will be held on April 15, 2024.
