Indonesia Masters 2024: Anthony Ginting Beats World Champion

JAKARTA The men's singles badminton player Anthony Sinisuka Ginting got a ticket to the semifinals of the Indonesia Masters 2024 after beating the 2021 champion, Loh Kean Yew.

Ginting, who is the third seed in the tournament, won two straight games with a score of 21-17 and 21-19 over the Singapore representative at Istora Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan, Jakarta, Friday, January 26, 2024, evening WIB.

"A very tight and interesting match in my opinion. We both performed our best game today. We are not easy to get a point," said Anthony after the match.

This match is the eighth meeting between Ginting and Loh Kean Yew. In the previous seven clashes, Ginting led a 5-2 win-loss record over the 26-year-old badminton player.

Yew's previous two victories over Ginting came at their first two meetings. That is, he has never fought Ginting in their six latest clashes.

Ginting will next meet Brian Yang. The Canadian representative is in his best form by defeating second seed Li Shi Feng and Lee Zii Jia on their way to the semifinals at the Indonesia Masters 2024.

However, in the previous three clashes with Ginting, those recorded always lost. All these defeats occurred last year, respectively at the Sudirman Cup, Singapore Open, and Hong Kong Open.

"Ini salah satu pertandingan yang harus diwaspadai. Brian Yang di minggu ini juga bermain sangat bagus. Dia bahkan mengalahkan beberapa unggulan, tetapi semua pemain yang bermain punya kesempatan," kata Ginting.

Ginting is Indonesia's fourth representative to the semifinals. Previously, three tickets were secured by the men's doubles duo Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto and Daniel Marthin as well as the women's doubles Lanny Tria Mayasari/Ribka Sugiarto.
