Indonesia Masters 2024: Gregoria Smoothly To The Second Round

Gregoria Mariska Tunjung passed the first round of the Indonesia Masters 2024 (doc. PSSI).

JAKARTA The women's singles badminton player Gregoria Mariska Tunjung confirmed that she qualified for the second round of the Indonesia Masters 2024 after winning against Germany's singles, Yvonne Li.

The 2017 junior world champion passed the first round of the BWF Super 500 level event after securing an easy victory in two straight games 21-17 and 21-17 at Istora Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, January 24, 2024.

"The match was not satisfied because there were mistakes myself, they were still frequent. It made me depressed too, but fortunately I won earlier," said Gregoria after the match.

This is the third tournament Gregoria played earlier this year. Previously, the badminton player from Wonogiri appeared at the Malaysia Open and the 2024 India Open.

When at the Malaysia Open, Gregoria was able to reach the quarter-finals. Meanwhile, at the India Open the journey stopped in the second half.

Gregoria said that her schedule in the future would be even more crowded to catch tickets to the 2024 Paris Olympics. Therefore, she will try to maximize her time as best she can to get to Paris.

"So, I try to be smarter to maintain conditions and take advantage of the available time to practice. With quite a short time, there are many tournaments," he said.

"It's also quite tense to start this year with a big target, but I'm making motivation. In Indonesia I target the maximum and can show the best," he said.

Before Gregoria, Indonesia had also secured several tickets for the second round on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, through Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari and Putri Kusuma Wardani.

Meanwhile, in another match, Jonatan Christie's men's singles were killed. The defeat made Jonathan certainly unable to defend his title in this Super 500 event.
