Indonesian Vs Iraq National Team: Midfielder Against Jersey Exchange Agreement With Ivar Jenner

Ivan Jenner plans to exchange jerseys with Iraqi midfielder Zidane Iqbal (doc. PSSI).

JAKARTA - The Indonesian national team midfielder, Ivar Jenner, has the opportunity to appear for the team against Iraq in the inaugural match of Group D of the 2023 Asian Cup at Ahmed bin Ali Stadium, Monday, January 15, 2024, at 21.30 WIB.

If he gets the opportunity, Jenner will exchange jerseys with the opposing midfielder, Zidane Iqbal.

The plan to exchange jerseys with Zidane Iqbal is not without reason. Jenner was indeed friendly with Iqbal on and off the field while defending Dutch club, Utrecht FC.

Jenner and Zidane Iqbal will still maintain their friendship even though they meet as opponents.

"We are friends off the field. However, when we became opponents on the field, we agreed that we would play like we don't know each other," said Zidane Iqbal in a conversation with Ivar Jenner on Utrecht's official YouTube quoted on Monday, January 15, 2024.

"If Iraq allows me to provide jerseys, I want Indonesian jerseys, Ivar jerseys. We're also talking about other things. If we can exchange jerseys then we'll do it," said Iqbal again.

Jenner's chances of appearing in the inaugural Group D match against Iraq are open. If you look at his ability to survive or regulate the rhythm of the game, he could be Shin Tae-yong's mainstay.

Previously, Indonesia had met Iraq at the Basra International Stadium in the 2026 World Cup Qualification in the Asian Zone, November 2023. At that time Indonesia was forced to surrender 1-5.

At this second meeting, the Indonesian national team intended to take revenge in order to look at the opportunity to qualify for the last 16 of the 2023 Asian Cup.
