Jordi Really Gets Trust To Be The Captain Of The Indonesian National Team: A Proud Experience

JAKARTA - The Indonesian national team defender, Jordi Amat, expressed his impression that he had the opportunity to captain the team. The moment occurred during a test match ahead of the 2023 Asian Cup.

In the match against Iran at Rayyan Training Site, Qatar, Tuesday, January 9, 2024, Jordi Amat was appointed to lead his colleagues on the field.

This was coach Shin Tae-yong's decision following the situation of Asnawi Mangkualam as the main captain who could not play since the early minutes.

"It's proud to be able to lead and try to give them good advice. It's a very young team."

That moment then made Jordi Amat have valuable experience. The reason is, he can feel that he is part of the ranks of the Indonesian national team captain with Asnawi Mangkualam and Marc Klok.

With the status of captain, Jordi Amat admits that it is not an easy task, but he will carry the trust entirely with two other colleagues who have more experience.

"However, I really took this task (as captain). I hope everything goes well."

"I think the three of us are ready to do this great job, Asnawi, Marc Klok, and myself," said Jordi.

Being captain of the team is nothing new for Jordi Amat. The reason is, in his current team, Johor Darul Ta'zim, the 31-year-old is also the team captain.

With that background, Shin Tae-yong then easily trusted the captain's armband to Jordi Amat in the trial session ahead of the 2023 Asian Cup.

"It's an honor for me to be one of the captains trying to help my teammates," he said.

After completing three test matches, the Indonesian national team will immediately start their journey in the 2023 Asian Cup.

The Garuda squad will face their inaugural match in Group D by meeting Iraq on January 15, 2024.

After that, the Indonesian national team will face Vietnam on January 19, 2024. Japan will be the opponent of Jordi Amat and colleagues in the group phase which will be held on January 24, 2024.

Regarding the schedule and potential opponents that will be faced in the 2023 Asian Cup, Jordi Amat has his own views.

The 31-year-old admits that experience and hard work will be the main capital for boosting performances on the ground.

"In games and tournaments like this, we really need to level up. We need more experience to do better games."

"So, we have to keep working hard with coaches and staff to improve what we need," said the player who has played in the Spanish League and Premier League.
