6 Badminton Legends Become Mentors In The Ad Hoc Team For The 2024 Paris Olympics

PBSI announced the Ad Hoc Team for the 2024 Paris Olympics (Cosmas Kopong Beda/VOI).

JAKARTA The Central Board of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) officially announced the Ad Hoc Team for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The announcement was made at the PBSI National Training Center (Pelatnas) in Cipayung, East Jakarta, Monday, January 8, 2024. In total there are six sports legends filling the composition of this team.

Ad Hoc Team Manager, Armand Darmadji, said the team will focus on boosting athletes' rankings so that they can meet the requirements to qualify for the four-yearly largest multi-branch.

"Travels to the Olympics require clear roadmaps and programs so that we can rank up and enter as many Indonesian athletes as possible into the Olympics," he said.

The six legends who filled the Ad Hoc Team led directly by the Secretary-General of PBSI, Fadil Imran, were Taufik Hidayat, Susy Susanti, Candra Wijaya, Greysia Polii, Liliyana Natsir, and Tontowi Ahmad.

Taufik Hidayat is a mentor in the men's singles sector, Susy Susanti will help the women's singles, Candra Wijaya fills the men's doubles mentor, Greysia Polii in the women's doubles, and the last two names fill the mixed doubles.

Tontowi Ahmad welcomed the task he got. He said that he was ready to help so that the gold medal tradition from badminton could continue to be nurtured.

"I want to contribute. If it's about the results (loss or not to the Olympics), that's later. I'm here to spend all my abilities to help," said the former athlete who is familiarly called Owi.

To be able to confirm tickets to the 2024 Paris Olympics, badminton athletes still have to take part in 12 more tournaments until April 2024. That includes the 2024 Malaysia Open which will take place on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.
