Unconsistent, Manchester United Lose Against Nottingham Forest

JAKARTA - Manchester United failed to show consistency. In the duel against Nottingham Forest in the English Premier League event at City Ground Stadium, Sunday, December 31 in the morning WIB, MU was forced to surrender 2-1.

The bad result is even more encouraging if MU is still far from consistent. After playing brilliantly when defeating the top team of Aston Villa 3-2 in the Boxing Day match, MU lost to Forest which was still struggling at the bottom.

Forest became the next team to break records when they met MU. Yes, this is the first time since 1994, Forest can beat the Red Devils.

This means that during his time in the Sir Alex Ferguson era, MU was unbeaten every time he met Forest. The brilliant record was tarnished after Manchester United was handled by manager Erik ten Hag.

This is what makes Ten Hag wary of his future at MU. The call for supporters 'Sacking in the morning' sounds loud.

While there was the legend Ferguson sitting next to Sir David Brailsford, sporting director of INEOS, who looked disappointed with Manchester United's performance.

The owner of INEOS, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has purchased 25% of MU's shares. And Radcliffe is already planning to fire Ten Hag.

The former Ajax Amsterdam coach could actually save his position if MU could appear more consistent. This allows them to hunt for a better position.

In addition, MU is aiming for the FA Cup which is the only trophy that can be hunted after being eliminated in the Champions League and Carabao Cup.

But that hope did not come true after the Red Devils lost to Forest. Failed to consistently make MU never move from the middle board of the standings.

The result made Ten Hag's troops stuck in seventh place with 31.

Ten Hag's position is increasingly uncomfortable and threatened with dismissal. Although previously he received guarantees from the club that his position would not be announced, now Ten Hag's situation is different.

Meanwhile, Forest is slowly starting to move away from the relegation zone. Currently, Forest is ranked 15th with 20 points. They are five points ahead of the team in the relegation zone.

In that match, MU should be wary of Forest. Victory over Villa at least motivates Bruno Fernandes et al to improve performance in order to win at home to the opponent.

The reason is, Forest is not a light opponent. Moreover, they are trying to get out of the relegation zone.

In the last match, Newcastle United, who played at home, were beaten by Forest 3-1. This shows that Nuno Espirito Santo's team cannot be underestimated.

Evidently, the match at home to Forest was tight. MU struggled to penetrate the host's tight defense.

Likewise, Forest's attack could still be broken by the MU defense which was initiated by senior defender Raphael Varane. The duet with Jonny Evans was indeed quite effective in fortifying goalkeeper Andre Onana.

However, Forest's patience yielded maximum results. They finally took the lead after Nicolas Dominguez broke into Onana's goal in the 64th minute.

The goal started with Gonzalo Montiel's pass which was immediately greeted by Dominguez. There was no escort against Dominguez so he could easily score goals and the score changed 1-0.

MU's hopes of getting up and taking points came after Marcus Rashford ended the goal deadlock by breaking into the home goal in the 78th minute.

The England national team player, who has not scored a goal for a long time, has completed Alejandro Garnacho's assist well.

However, the 1-1 draw did not last long. Only a few minutes later or exactly 82 minutes, Morgan Gibbs-White managed to break into the MU goal.

His goal could not be separated from the role of former Manchester United player, Anthony Elanga who provided assists. The opportunity was put to good use by Gibb-White.

Forest again won 2-1. No more goals were created even though MU had pressed the opponent's defense. The score did not change until the end of the match.
