PEAK Sport Region Indonesia Holds Student Basketball League In Yogyakarta

Chairman of Perbasi DIY, Kanjeng Pangeran Haryo (KPH) Purbodiningrat, supports the Student Basketball League held by PEAK (VOI/Gonang Susatyo).

YOGYAKARTA - PEAK Sport Region Indonesia plans to hold a Student Basketball League in Yogyakarta. The league will be followed by elementary, junior high, and university which will be held in 2024.

Student competitions ranging from elementary to tertiary levels are expected to develop basketball for young children to young people in DI Yogyakarta.

Not only that, the competition that is regularly rolled out will bring up young basketball players who can take part in professional levels.

Moreover, DIY actually has tremendous potential for basketball. The SMP-SMA basketball league event which is regularly held in DIY is always filled with spectators.

Likewise, during professional competitions such as NBL and then IBL, they would definitely get a happy welcome from DIY basketball fans.

Rachmad Kasim Martadji, initiator of the Student Basketball League, said that the competition will be rolled out for a long period of time. The reason is, the competition is held every Saturday and Sunday.

Kasim, who is a former national referee and match supervisor (FIBA Commissioner) and often serves in the Indonesian professional league and at various national level competitions, positively welcomes the support from PEAK.

"The implementation of the Student League and Student League in Yogyakarta will be held regularly. Whether the league is held indoors or outdoors is not a problem," said Kasim in Yogyakarta, Monday, December 18, 2023.

"Most importantly, Yogyakarta and the regions have regular student competitions. For that, we hope for support from PEAK," said Kasim, who is also a coach at the Tugu Muda Jogja club.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the DIY Perbasi Pengprov, Kanjeng Pangeran Haryo (KPH) Purbodiningrat, supports the implementation of student-level basketball competitions. According to Kanjeng Purbo, DIY already has a good basketball ecosystem.

KPH Purbodiningrat in his speech said the DIY Perbasi Pengprov would fully support regulations and recommendations and human resources (HR) in creating a better basketball ecosystem.

"With this activity as an effort to develop a basketball ecosystem in the Special Region of Yogyakarta," said KPH Purbodiningrat.

Kanjeng Purbo explained that the basketball ecosystem in DIY has so far been quite promising, but it still needs guidance so that it continues to bring many achievements.

"Prestasi itu sebenarnya sudah mulai tumbuh dan berkembang. Ketika kami Pengprov Perbasi DIY berhasil meloloskan tiga tim ke PON Aceh-Sumut 2024," ujarnya.

Prior to the implementation, PEAK Sport Region Indonesia conducted a series of roadshows to Yogyakarta City on December 15-18, 2023.

The basketball and performance shoe manufacturer collaborated with a basic basketball figure nicknamed Mr. Showtime Indonesia, namely Ary Sudarsono.

Through this roadshow, PEAK not only supports the development of basketball in the Student City, but also educates basketball players ranging from elementary, junior high, high school, university, basketball community clubs.

By involving parents, they campaign for the importance of education and forming a good Indonesian human character, one of which is through basketball.

"PEAK remains committed to the development of basketball both in the world and in Indonesia consistently. Moreover, the impact of the FIBA World Cup, teams supported by PEAK such as Germany, Latvia, Iran, and others achieved success," said Hendarto Tjai, CEO of PEAK Sport Region Indonesia.

"We are collaborating with Indonesian basketball figures Ary Sudarsono and Kasim to hold a series of basketball sharing by involving schools, campuses, communities and basketball clubs, as well as the Perbasi Regency and Regency/City Government. This activity can develop basketball in Yogyakarta," he said.

Roadshow activities from PEAK Sport were held at SMP 4 Pakem, Budi Utama School, STPN Campus (National Land College), and UAD Campus (Ahmad Dahlan University).

Meanwhile, Indonesian basketball legend Ary Sudarsono welcomed the roadshow activities in Yogyakarta.

He hopes that the development of basketball in Yogyakarta will progress. However, according to him, the most important thing is that basketball players can become role models because they have good attitude in their daily lives.

"The number of basketball competitions starting from the club, student, community and professional levels is very good."

"However, the most important thing is how to create and spread the Indonesian basketball human virus throughout the country, including educating students, parents, communities, and club coaches to care about education and become better human characters," said Ary.
