Atletico Madrid Win 2-1, Extend Trend Without Almoria's Victory

Atletico Madrid beat Almeria 2-1 on Sunday 10 December from goals in the first half scored by Alvaro Morata and Angel Correa. The result extended the streak without Almoria's win at LaLiga to 16 matches.

This victory made Atletico move up to third place, matching Barcelona with 34 points and five points adrift of leaders in the Real Madrid standings.

In that match, Antoine Griezmann scored a goal disallowed by VAR for offside, but he helped his team take the lead in the 17th minute when he grabbed a high ball on the pitch before finding Morata. He then broke into the net after passing the opposing goalkeeper.

Correa doubled the lead five minutes later after Marcos Llorente provided a cross from the field for the Argentine forward to parry the ball from close range, another goal set by Griezmann.

Almeria narrowed the deficit through Leo Baptistao who scored in about the 60th minute after the Brazilian forward took advantage of a wild ball after Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak made a save.

Until now Almoria, the only LaLiga team that has yet to win this season, has a chance in the second half to steal points, but Oblak looks tough against the opponent's chances. Diego Simeone and his troops returned to winning ways after losing to Barcelona last week.
