JAKARTA The Executive Board of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PB PBSI) targets to get three medals at the BWF World Tour Finals 2023.

Head of PBSI's Development and Achievement Division, Riony Mainaky, said the target could be obtained by the men's doubles and men's and women's singles.

"For the men's singles, and women's singles, we hope to get the title," Riony told the media crew at the PBSI Cipayung National Training Center, East Jakarta, Wednesday, December 6, 2023.

The two men's doubles representatives who qualified for the 2023 BWF World Tour Finals were Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto and Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri.

Meanwhile, the two men's singles and one women's singles passed, namely Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Jonatan Christie and Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.

Riony said the names are currently in a combat-ready condition. Gregoria, for example, had an injury problem with the soles of the feet improved.

"I see Gregoria fit. Jonathan and Ginting are also good. So, you could say we have a target of three. We just have to maximize it. We can hope that all the final sectors, at least the semifinals," he said.

In addition to the five representatives above, there are still Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti in the women's doubles. This means that Indonesia is only minus mixed doubles which is not but at the BWF World Tour Finals 2023.

Riony said the real opportunity was also owned by Apri/Fadia. However, he did not want to expect many targets from this couple because Apriyani was not fully fit.

"If Apriyani Rahayu fits, we are targeting all the finals," he said.

Indonesia has so far recorded a very poor title since the BWF World Tour Finals was held starting in 2018 replacing the title Super Series Finals.

Of the five editions that have been held, only men's doubles Mohammad Ahsan / Hendra Setiawan have come out as champions. It happened in the 2019 edition in Guangzhou, China.
