Kemenpora Departs Indonesian Team To IWAS World Games 2023 For Preparation For The Paris 2024 Paralympics

JAKARTA - The Indonesian team will go to participate in the 2023 World Games International Wheelchair and Amputee Sport (IWAS) championship at Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

The release ceremony was carried out by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenpora RI) represented by the Special Staff of the Menpora for Achievement Improvement and Development of the Sports Industry, Ardima Rama Putra.

For this event, the Indonesian contingent sent 36 athletes and 73 to take part in 8 sports from 11 sports that were competed on December 1-9. The eight sports are athletics, swimming, shooting, lifting weights, table tennis, archery, badminton and road cycling.

Accompaniing the departure of the athletes at the 2023 IWAS World Games at Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, Ardima Rama Putra said that the Ministry of Youth and Sports always supports athletes from the game to achieve world achievements.

In the release ceremony which was held at Terminal 3 of Soekarno Hatta Airport, Tangerang, Banten on Friday, December 1, the Ministry of Youth and Sports also hoped that all sports could achieve the set target. In total of the eight sports that were followed, Indonesia must receive 3 gold medals and 8 bronze medals.

"We hope that from the eight sports the games that are followed, hopefully they will achieve the target and bring home achievements for the nation. Hopefully, this achievement will continue and continue until later at the 2024 Paralympics," said Ardima who is also CdM of the Indonesian contingent at this event.

Ardima also said that this was the first participation of the Indonesian contingent in the 2023 IWAS World Games. Even so, he hopes that this opportunity can be a good momentum towards the 2024 Paris Paralympics.

"Hopefully this event will be an opportunity to hone and strengthen again towards the Paralympics, while we prove that Indonesia in the paralympics is a country that should be taken into account as a representative of Asia," he said.
