Perbasi Will Send IBL Champions To The ASEAN Competition Next Year

Indonesian IBL champions will participate in competitions at the ASEAN level (doc. Perbasi).

JAKARTA The Indonesian Basketball League (IBL) champion club will get tickets to compete with champions from ASEAN countries.

The news was born after the SEABA meeting in Malaysia on November 21, 2023. During the meeting, the international basketball parent FIBA designed preparations to make leagues for clubs in ASEAN.

"So with this program, later the IBL champion will be sent to compete with the champions in the competition of each ASEAN country," said Secretary General of Perbasi, Nirmala Dewi, quoted on the federation website.

In its implementation later, champions from each competition in each ASEAN country will be pitted. The next winner in Southeast Asia will participate in the competition between Asian countries.

Then, the best in Asia will compete in intercontinental championships. The competition is expected to boost the quality of competition in each country.

Currently, the name of the tournament and the timeline for competitions in Southeast Asia have not yet been determined. However, coordination between ASEAN and FIBA countries continues to be carried out to resolve all of them.

Nirmala explained that currently his party is coordinating this plan with IBL. Perbasi asked the operator to guarantee that the selected team is the best club from the last season of competition.

"This tournament is purely followed by the best clubs as a result of competitions in each country. So this is the battle between the teams resulting from the best competition in each country," he said.

The plan is that the ASEAN team tournament will start next year. The IBL champion for the 2023 season has the opportunity to become one of the participants in this event.

However, related to the technical appointment of the club, it is the domain of IBL and will refer to the final competition standings.
