U-17 World Cup Results 2023: Germany U-17 Steps Into Semifinals Thanks To Penalty

Germany U-17 narrowly won over Spain U-17 in the quarter-finals of the 2023 U-17 World Cup (doc. FIFA).

JAKARTA - Germany U-17 managed to qualify for the semifinals of the 2023 U-17 World Cup. The ticket was secured after a 1-0 win over Spain U-17 with one penalty.

Appearing in the quarter-finals which was held at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), Jakarta, on Friday, November 24, 2023 afternoon, the Panzer Team managed to make a breakthrough even though Spain U-17 appeared dominant at the start of the match.

Germany U-17, which occasionally threatens with counter-attacks, is not too easy to create chances. In fact, Spain U-17 almost opened the scoring in the 43rd minute through Juan Hernandez, but failed to finish well.

Until the first half was over, the score of the glasses was still standing. Entering the second half, the duel was more exciting.

Both Spain U-17 and Germany U-17 both demonstrated sharp attacks to break the deadlock.

In the 53rd minute, Guiu caught a shot from outside the penalty box. Unfortunately, his shot was blocked by Schmitt who performed brilliantly.

A minute later, Germany U-17 threatened again. Paris Brunner tried to get a through ball, but the ball was swept away by the U-17 Spanish goalkeeper Raul Jimenez, who quickly came out of his nest.

The violation that Hector Fort committed against Brunner in the penalty area ended in disaster. The referee pointed to the spot and was successfully completed as a goal by Brunner.

Brunner's shot to the left of the net managed to outwit Jimenez who was moving in the opposite direction. Germany's U-17 lead 1-0.

Seeing the opponent's advantage, the La Rojita squad began to look quite frustrated. Several speculation shots from outside the penalty box tried to be used as weapons.

In the 89th minute, Pablo Lopez, who came on as a substitute, found a gap to shoot from outside the box. However, his shot was saved by Schmitt.

Spain U-17 again presented dangerous opportunities during injury time (90+9') through Jon Martin's header to welcome the cross. However, the ball can still be captured perfectly by Schmitt.

The score did not change until the long whistle was blown indicating the end of the match. Germany U-17 successfully beat Spain U-17 with a narrow score of 1-0.
