Novak Djokovic Qualifies For The 2023 ATP Finals Semifinals

Novak Djokovic qualified for the 2023 ATP Finals (Instagram) semifinals.

JAKARTA The Serbian tennis player, Novak Djokovic, is certain to qualify for the semifinals of the 2023 ATP Finals. This is the 12th semifinal for the world number one tennis player in the event.

Djokovic's certainty of getting a semi-final ticket after the hosts, Jannik Sinner, beat Holger Rune 6-2, 5-7, and 6-4 in the last match of the Green Group in Pala Alpitour, Turin, Italy, Thursday, November 16, 2023 night.

This result made Sinner top the group standings by bagging a 3-0 win-loss record. The previous two wins were won when they met Stefanos Tsitsipas and Djokovic.

Sinner also named himself the first Italian player in 54 years of tournament history to reach the semifinals.

Meanwhile, Djokovic who pursues the seventh title at ATP Finlas needs a Sinner victory to keep his hopes. He ended up runners-up in Group Hijau with a 2-1 win-loss record.

Djokovic's only defeat in the group stage came against Sinner. As for the two wins he got against Holger Rune and Hubert Hurkacz.

After ending his 19 consecutive wins on Tuesday (14 November 2023), Djokovic bounced back to beat Hurkacz, a substitute for Stefanos Tsitsipas who stepped down due to injury.

Reaching the semifinals makes Djokovic still have hope to defend his title. If he wins then he will hold the record as a tennis player with the most titles in the ATP Finals.

Currently Djokovic has six titles. He is equal to Roger Federer who has decided to retire.
