Japan Masters 2023: Jonathan Christie Reaches Second Round

JAKARTA Indonesian men's singles badminton player, Jonatan Christie, managed to get through the first round of the 2023 Japan Masters.

The sixth seed stopped Taipei's singles China, Chi Yu Jen, with a score of 21-14 and 21-9 at Kumamoto Predictural Gymnasium, Japan, Wednesday, November 15, 2023.

This is Jonathan's second win over Chi. Another win came at their first meeting in the first round of the Malaysia Masters 2023.

Jonathan had difficulties at the start of the first game. However, after 5-5, he managed to score six consecutive points to excel in the interval. The safe enough distance of points was maintained until he won the game.

Then in the second game, Jonathan conceded four consecutive points at the beginning before rising and equalizing the score three times 6-6, 7-7, and 8-8. After that, the opponent was only given the opportunity to add one point.

Before Jonathan, Indonesia had secured a ticket to the second half through Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari and Pramudya Kusumawardana/Yeremia Rambitan.

Unfortunately, the journey of several other Indonesian representatives must stop. They are the singles player Putri Kusuma Wardani and the Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati doubles.
