KONI Encourages The Promotion Of The Tarung Derajat Self-Defense Sports Branch To The World Level

JAKARTA - The Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) is pushing for promotions by PB of the Executive Board of the Tarung Derajat Sports Family (PB.KODRAT) to the world level so that it has a big impact on the Indonesian nation.

"The Central KONI fully supports PB. KODRAT's steps in promoting Tarung Derajat to the world level," said Central KONI Secretary General Lukman Djajakusuma in a written statement as reported by Antara, Saturday, November 4.

He said that Tarung degrees are one of the original Indonesian Derajat Tarungs which was initiated by Haji Achmad Dradjat.

The man who was born in Garut on July 18, 1951, created Tarung Derajat with his experience of fighting on the streets in the 1960s in Bandung. Finally, Bandung became the venue for the declaration of self-defense of Tarung Derajat on July 18, 1972.

"This is a genuine Indonesian martial arts sport and we need to introduce it to all corners of the world, starting with Asia," he said.

According to him, with this promotion, it is hoped that there will be many Tarung Derajat lovers in every country so that they will make their own advantages for Indonesia.

"With so many Tarung Derajat lovers in the world, first, Indonesia will be able to provide coaching support in various countries and also in our country to build a training center which will encourage Sport Tourism and Sport Industry," he said.

Second, by presenting Tarung Derajat at multi-events internationally because there are many enthusiasts in several countries. His party started at the SEA Games as Pencak Silat had started, then the Asian Games became the next target.

He said it was necessary to see and learn about Taekwondo, which began the Olympics' exhibition in 1988 in Seoul and was competed in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Taekwondo has started this for a long time, and it takes extra time from exhibitions to being competed in the Olympics. However, currently the closest target is the SEA Games.

Tarung Derajat and Pencak Silat must also continue to strive so that they can gradually become one of the Olympic sports starting from exhibitions. Promoting it worldwide, starting with Asia is the right first step. SEA Games is our closest target," he said

Previously, the Executive Board of the Tarung Derajat Sports Family (PB.KODRAT) under the leadership of Bambang Soesatyo was determined to promote Tarung Derajat to the world, starting with Asia.

Chairman of PB. KODRAT together with the Secretary General of the Central Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), Lukman Djajakusuma, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Menlu) Retno Lestari Priansari Marsudi on Friday (3/11).

The meeting aims to cooperate to promote Tarung Derajat in the Asian region.
