Lyon Coach Injured By Stone Loops From Marseille Supporter, Second Class Of The Club Was Furious

JAKARTA Olympique Lyon coach Fabio Grosso suffered severe injuries to his face due to being hit by a stone on the way for an away match against Olympique Marseille.

Lyon is scheduled to play an away match against their arch-enemy Olympique Marseille for the French Ligue 1 continued at Vélodrome Stadium, Sunday, October 29 evening WIB.

The match was finally postponed because a bus containing Lyon players and coaches was attacked by the opposing team's supporters while on their way to the match location.

Uncomfortable response to the rival team left Grosso and several team coaching staff injured on the face. Assistant coach Raffaele Longo also suffered injuries.

Grosso's face was even injured 3 centimeters long due to broken glass from a bus window that was famous for throwing stones, other projectiles, and a beer bottle that hit the forehead.

"Fabio Grosso cannot be spoken to, his face was hit by broken glass," said club president Lyon John Textor as reported by BBC Sport.

"After the window broke, another projectile hit him, right above his eye. There was a beer bottle hitting his forehead," he added.

In an image circulating on social media, Grosso is seen covered in blood and being carried on a stretcher. Lyon then released a video showing Grosso bandaged on the face.

In the video, Grosso and other Lyon staff are seen walking into the stadium to greet their supporters to watch the match, which unfortunately has been postponed.

"I am very angry. Our players, our coaches, are preparing for [match] tonight and fans want to see that game," Textor said.

Marseille President Pablo Longoria also criticized this incident. Moreover, this brutal act occurs almost every year when the two tough rivals are about to compete.

"[This action] is completely unacceptable. First I thought about Fabio Grosso, someone I have respected and known for a long time. I immediately met him after arriving at the stadium, I saw how he was doing," he said.

Currently Lyon is still at the bottom of the standings with a collection of three points from nine matches. Meanwhile, Marseille is in ninth position with 12 points.
