JAKARTA - The assistant to the U-17 Indonesian national team coach, Indra Sjafri, revealed that his party will reduce Garuda Asia players ahead of the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup which will take place on November 10 - December 2.

The U-17 national team has completed a training camp (TC) in Germany some time ago. Iqbal Gwijangge and his friends spent more than a month in the European country.

During the TC, a total of 29 names were included in the program which was held under the supervision of the Bima Sakti coach. However, Indra Sjafri confirmed that eight people would be dropped from the list.

"Later on the 29th, we will announce (the final name list), 18 (players) plus 3 goalkeepers to become the U-17 World Cup squad," said Indra Sjafri in a statement received Thursday, October 26.

In his struggle at the 2023 U-17 World Cup, the U-17 Indonesian national team is in Group A with Ecuador, Panama, and Morocco, and will occupy the Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium (GBT) Surabaya as headquarters.

Regarding Garuda Asia's performance, Indra Sjafri said there was an increase after returning from Germany. According to him, the Bima Sakti squad has shown significant changes compared to the last time they tested with South Korea.

Despite not being too good after swallowing 4 defeats and 12 conceded in a number of friendly matches, Indra Sjafri seems quite optimistic about the outlook for the appearance of the U-17 Indonesian national team.

"Yes, maybe the public saw the appearance of the U-17 national team against South Korea. I was present (in Germany), there was progress they got there," he said.

"Coach Frank gives coaching in Germany and (players can) try out against good teams. Even with the club, but they are over 17, 19 and 20," he added.
