JAKARTA The Indonesian national team will meet Brunei Darussalam in the first round of the 2026 World Cup Qualification. You can't be happy because the Garuda Troops have a record that is not smooth.

The clash between the two teams will take place at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK), Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, September 12 tomorrow at 19.00 WIB. This is the 14th clash between the two teams.

Previously clashed since 1971, Indonesia was recorded to dominate with a majority victory in 13 meetings. However, Garuda Troops have also experienced two defeats in that time.

The two defeats occurred respectively at the 1983 jurisprudence Cup and the Sukan Merdek Party in 1990. In addition to the two defeats, Indonesia was also held to a two-time draw, namely at the 1983 and 1985 SEA Games.

However, Indonesia has won four consecutive times since the second defeat. In this winning period, Garuda even scored a total of 18 goals without conceding.

The last victory occurred in the AFF Cup in 2022. At that time, Indonesia managed to secure a big seven-goal victory without reply when the two teams faced off in the group stage.

Coach Shin Tae-yong targets to continue that good trend when he meets GBK. The first leg victory will make his team relax playing the second leg at Brunei headquarters later.

On paper, the Indonesian national team should be able to get past Brunei. If able to do so, Indonesia will qualify for the second round and join Group F with Iraq, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
