Shin Tae-yong Wants The Indonesian National Team To Win Against Brunei At SUGBK To Relax While Away

JAKARTA The Indonesian national team coach (Timnas) Shin Tae Yong is eyeing to win against Brunei Darussalam in the first leg of the 2026 World Cup Qualification.

The Indonesian national team is scheduled to face Brunei in the first round of qualifying for the Asian zone at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on Thursday, October 12. Victory will facilitate Indonesia's steps towards qualifying for the second round.

"We play at home. So, however, it needs to be maximized to score goals. That way the squad is more relaxed to go to Brunei," Shin said after his first training at Field A, Senayan, Monday, October 9, 2023.

To prepare for Brunei, the Korean coach has called as many as 26 players. All of the names who were called were present in the first training.

The first exercise itself is very relaxed. The players were only given the opportunity to undergo recovery because they previously appeared to defend their respective clubs in the competition.

"So today's training is just recovery training. Because many new players finished playing [in the League] and came right away. Then there were also players who came from abroad for a long time on the way," said Shin Tae Yong.

The Indonesian national team will first act as the host of the first round of qualifying for the Asian zone. Five days later the Indonesian national team will undergo the second leg at the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium.

If they qualify from the first half, Indonesia will enter the second round group stage in Group F. There, Indonesia will face tougher enemies because of Iraq, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

In the second half, Garuda troops had to finish as the top two if they wanted to qualify for the next phase. If that happens, Indonesia will need one more step to appear in the 2026 World Cup.
