2023 Junior Badminton World Championships: Failed To Follow In The Footsteps Of Alwi Farhan, Chiara Marvella Remains Grateful For The Silver Medal

JAKARTA - The Indonesian team failed to add gold medals at the 2023 Junior Badminton World Championships in the United States. Chiara Marvella Handoyo, who competed in the women's singles, had to settle for a silver medal.

Chiara's achievements should be appreciated. Even though he was only runner up, the athlete who was born on June 14, 2005, had given his best.

Chiara had to settle for the second podium after losing against Pitchamon Opatniputh from Thailand in the final. In just 33 minutes, Chiara gave up losing 11-21, 9-21.

With this failure, Chiara also failed to follow in the footsteps of Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, as the last Indonesian women's singles player to become the 2017 junior world champion in Yogyakarta.

"Praise God and still grateful to be able to reach the runner-up position. But I also feel disappointed for failing to fly the Red and White flag. I want him to win, but with this result, I still have to be grateful," Chiara said, as quoted by Antara.

"Earlier, there were obstacles on the ground, from the tempo side of the game, I was regulated by the opponent. I couldn't get out of the opponent's pressure," added Chiara.

Apart from Chiara, Indonesian representatives in the men's singles, Alwi Farhan, managed to donate a gold medal. He defeated Hu Zhe An from China with a score of 21-19, 19-21, 21-14 in the final which took place at The Podium Arena, Spokane, Washington.

Meanwhile, one bronze medal was produced by mixed doubles Jonathan Farrell Gosal/Priskila Venus Elsadai who were eliminated in the semifinals after being defeated by Liao Pin Yi/Zhang Jia Han from China, 16-21, 16-21.
