19 Years Of David Silva's Career In Professional Football Ended Due To Serious Knee Injury

JAKARTA The Spaniard and former Manchester City star, David Silva, decided to hang up his boots. He ended his football career due to an anterior knee ligament injury (ACL).

Silva got the serious injury, 37, during pre-season training with his club Real Sociedad. The injury to his left knee has been obtained since the beginning of this month.

"Today was a sad day for me," Silva said in a video clip posted on social media as quoted by BBC Sport.

Silva spent a successful decade with City before hanging up his boots. During his time with The Citizen, he won four Premier League titles.

He then moved to Real Sociedad in 2020. However, the injury forced him to close his 19-year successful career in football

"Now is the time to say goodbye to something I have dedicated my whole life. Today I also say goodbye to my colleagues, who are like family to me. I will miss you so much," he continued.

The former Spain international joined City from Valencia in 2010. During the British giant he made 436 appearances and scored 77 goals.

In addition to the four Premier League titles, Silva also helped City win two FA Cups and five League Cups. Thanks to that contribution, the club set up his statue and was inaugurated in 2021.

The statue was erected next to other club legends, namely Vincent Kompany and Sergio Aguero.

Silva retired from the duties of the Spanish national team in 2018 after helping La Furia Roja win the 2010 World Cup and the Euro 2008 and 2012 titles. Total Silva made 125 appearances with Spain and scored 35 goals.

Silva actually still has a year left in his contract with Real Sociedad. He also played a big role in leading La Real to the top four and qualified for the European Champions League. Since joining in 2020, Silva has scored seven goals and 18 assists from 93 matches in all competitions.
