Luis Milla Withdraws From Persib Bandung Coach Chair, Who Will Replace Him?

Luis Milla declared his resignation from the Persib Bandung coaching chair on Saturday 15 July. Physical coach Persib Yaya Sunarya was appointed Persib's caretaker during the search for a new coach.

Deputy CEO of PT Persib Bandung Bermartabat (PBB) Teddy Tjahjono admitted that the decision of the Spanish coach was very sudden. Luis has been in charge of the club, the pride of the West Javanese.

"We are internally starting to look for a candidate to replace the head coach, which we will immediately review the existing candidates. So hopefully we can get a replacement from Luis Milla as soon as possible," said Teddy at Graha Persib, Bandung City, West Java, Saturday, July 15.

Apart from Luis, Teddy said two assistant coaches who are also Spanish, namely Carlos Rodrigues and Manu Perez also withdrew from the Persib Bandung coaching team.

"Because indeed the assistants are in the same unit as Luis Milla, then all of them will resign," he said.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of PT PBB Umuh Muchtar admitted that he was surprised by Luis Milla's decision. Because finding a new coach for the Maung Bandung club is not an easy matter.

Umuh explained that Luis had personal needs because his parents were sick. So Luis chose to go home to his family.

"I mean, if you want to go home, there's no problem, no problem, no more than 10 days. But they didn't promise to come back, that's what I said was shocked," said Umuh.

Meanwhile, Luis Milla thanked all parties, including the management of the club, the players, and other parties who had supported him while in Bandung.

"Whatever has been passed with the players, has also been passed well, this is just a personal reason. A pretty difficult thing to decide on," he said.

Under Milla, Persib managed to rank third in the 2022/2023 Liga 1 season competition, after appearing not optimal several times at the start of the season.

Since making his Persib debut in the eighth week of the 2022/2023 Liga 1 competition, Luis Milla has managed to record 17 wins, four draws, and six defeats.

Meanwhile, in Liga 1 2023/2024, Milla only brought Persib to three points in three matches, all of which ended in a draw.
