JAKARTA - PSM Makassar will play the inaugural match of Liga 1 2023/2024 against Persija Jakarta. PSM Makassar will set aside a record meeting with the Kemayoran Tigers for maximum performance.

Taking place at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) on Monday, July 3 at 19.00 WIB, Bernardo Tavares as PSM coach set a high target. He said, in the inaugural match of the 2023/2024 season, Juku Eja had to bag a victory.

He admitted, facing Persija at his own headquarters with the full support of The Jakmania will also add to the level of difficulties for PSM. This situation then made Tavares even more challenged to make this away match end in victory.

"For the match against Persija I hope we can show a good game. PSM itself has not won away here for a long time, even last season we lost, this will be a difficult match for us," said Bernardo Tavares during a press conference before the match.

In order to realize a target that was not easy at Persija's headquarters, the 43-year-old tactician asked his team to give their best.

"I hope in the match later I can feel that my team has given better than last season's game," he said.

Regarding the record for the meeting of PSM Makassar and Persija Jakarta last season, Juku Eja was less prominent than the pride team in Jakarta. Although at the end of the 2023/2024 season came out as champions, PSM Makassar found it difficult to beat the Kemayoran Tigers.

Of the ten meetings that have occurred since 2017, PSM Makassar has won only once in Liga 1 for the 2017/2018 season. Meanwhile, at the last meeting last season, PSM also lost 2-4 to the Kemayoran Tigers.
