U20 World Cup: Argentina Beats Uzbekistan 2-1, Slovakia Beats Fiji 4-0

JAKARTA - The 2023 U-20 World Cup officially opened by playing four games, one of which featured Argentina's win over Uzbekistan 2-1, and Slovakia which took Fiji four goals without reply.

Tango's team was left behind through Makhmudjon Makhamadjonov's goal in the 22nd minute. Rahmonaliyev provided a pass to Makhamdjonov who went into the penalty box, he then kicked the ball from a tight angle which goalkeeper Gomes Gerth failed to stop. The score became 1-0.

Argentina could equalize the score to 1-1 through Alejo Veliz's header in the penalty box after maximizing Agustin Giay's cross from the right.

The host supporters cheered again after Valentin Carboni scored his second goal for Argentina in the 40th minute. Receiving the ball from Aguire, Carboni dribbled in front of goal before releasing a hard left-footed shot that the Uzbekistan goalkeeper Boymurodov couldn't stop. The score is 2-1.

Launching Antara, this victory made Argentina temporarily top Group A with three points, which is the same as New Zealand. However, the home team was ahead on goal difference.

The New Zealand national team beat Gutamala with a narrow score of 1-0 through Norman Garbett's goal in the 79th minute. Roa Conchie let go of the hull into Garbett which went into the penalty box before releasing the ball past goalkeeper Moreno Alfaro.

New Zealand secured three points and placed second in Group A thanks to a 1-0 win.

Turning to Group B, the United States started their first match in the competition with a narrow 1-0 win over Ecuador.

The United States was only able to ensure victory during injury time or the 92nd minute. Jonathan Gomez fired hard from outside the penalty box which the Ecuadorian goalkeeper, Gilmar Napa, failed to stop.

In another Group B match, Slovakia won 4-0 over Fiji. Slovakia's four goals were scored by Gazi in the 17th minute, Szolgai in the 25th minute, Gajdos in the 70th minute, and Jambor in the 79th minute.

The big win made Slovakia successfully lead the Group B standings with three points from one match played.
