JAKARTA - Sad news came from the world of sports. David Jacobs, who is a table tennis para athlete, passed away on Friday, April 28. The news of David's departure was also shared by the Indonesian Paralympic Committee (NPC) through social media.

Through the official NPC account on Instagram, sad news and condolences were conveyed to David Jacobs.

"Goodbye, Indonesian sports heroes. Your deep sorrow for the departure of table tennis players, Dian David Michael Jacobs," wrote the NPC on Instagram on Friday, April 28.

Before it was reported that he had died, David Jacobs was known to be in Jakarta to take care of the letters to leave for the table tennis tournament in Slovenia.

During his lifetime, David became a para-tenis athlete who was quite prominent because he was full of achievements. He is an Indonesian mainstay table tennis athlete who presented a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

David Jacobs' success in winning the bronze medal for table tennis at the 2020 Paralympics was a big surprise. Because in the individual number it is not targeted to win a medal given the tight competition.

David Jacobs' bronze medal at the 2020 Paralympics was the second bronze event at the disability sports event. Previously, David also won a similar medal at the 2012 London Paralympics.

At the Asian Para Games, David Jacobs once gave three gold medals to Indonesia. The first gold was won at the 2014 Asian Para Games and then two gold when Indonesia hosted the 2018 Asian Para Games.

The athlete, whose full name is Dian David Michael Jacobs, was born on June 21, 1977. At the age of 45, David was in the 10th grade Para-Table Technical. Born in Ujung Pandang, David Jacobs has been practicing table tennis since he was 10 years old.

In 2000 he trained for his first international game and in 2001 he won his first gold medal at the SEATTA Games in Singapore which was the start of his career.
