JAKARTA - South Sulawesi (Sulsel) boxer Yoshua Holy Masior is trusted to strengthen Indonesia's appearance in the IBA Men's Boxing World Championship world boxing championship in Uzbekistan.

The championship will take place in Tashkent City from April 28 to May 15. Yoshua will later play in the 57kg international event.

South Sulawesi Boxing Coach Dufri Masior said that he is currently increasing Yoshua's fighting skills by competing against boxers from various classes.

"We deliberately prepared a sports opponent for Yoshua from different classes, namely above 60kg to further increase her cruising range," said the former athlete who won the 1998 SEA Games gold medal.

Yoshua's potential opponents at the championship will certainly not be easy. He will meet boxers from Cuba, Kazakhstan, and of course host athletes from Uzbekistan.

However, Yoshua admitted that he was physically and mentally ready to face his opponents later. He said he would try to take advantage of this golden opportunity that he had never had.

I didn't expect to qualify. This is a golden opportunity for me. I'm not just chasing achievements, but also adding to the experience and hours of competing in the ring. Moreover, the opponents they face later are great boxers from all over the world," he said.

Besides Yoshua, Indonesia is also strengthened by five other potential young athletes. They are Derwin R Lusi (East Nusa Tenggara) who fell in the 48-51kg class, Rejeki Manalu (North Sumatra) 51-54kg class, Gianlugi Kalaipupin (North Maluku) in the 57-60kg class, Matthew Mandiangan (DKI Jakarta) 60-63.5kg class, and M Riko Prayogi (Lampung) in the 67-71 kg class.

The Indonesian boxing national team is scheduled to gather in Jakarta on April 25 before leaving for Uzbekistan on April 28, 2023.
