TOBA - A big plan is being prepared by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) for the sports sector. The number one person in Indonesia wants to present the most prestigious car racing event in the world, Formula One (F1).

This wish was conveyed by President Jokowi after witnessing the 2023 Lake Toba F1 in Balige, North Sumatra, Sunday, February 26.

He said the government is currently exploring all possibilities. One of them is bringing the F1 race to Indonesia.

"We are exploring everything because bringing strong brands like F1 Powerboats is not easy. We want to attract Formula 1 to enter Indonesia, maybe next year," he said on the presidential.go.id page.

"This is just an assessment, just prepare a team to go there," he continued.

President Jokowi assessed that international events such as F1 could build brands from the regions that organize them and spur economic growth in the area.

"Here, at Lake Toba there is an F1 Powerboat, later in Mandalika there is MotoGP, in Jakarta there is Formula E, later in Mandalika there is Superbike, I think this will trigger the economy in the regions. Very good," said the former Governor of DKI Jakarta.

Although no Indonesian racer has taken part yet, President Jokowi said that international racing events have also had an impact on super priority tourist destinations in Indonesia.

"Later on, some of our events will be able to have teams like we saw earlier. But at least this can provide big events on super priority tourist destinations in our country," explained President Jokowi.
