JAKARTA – A blind boxer, Thomas Seres, is ready to surprise the world of boxing. The 23-year-old athlete is getting ready to step into the ring for his debut against a boxer who can see perfectly.

Thomas will reportedly box next month in a charity match. He got into the ring to raise funds for Cancer Research in England.

"Losing was not an option. I've always wanted to box, but never thought I could join a boxing gym," he said.

Thomas, who is registered as blind, can only see at a distance of three feet in front of him or 0.914 meters. The fighter, who is known as a fan of the Rocky movie, came armed with a level two boxing certificate.

His imperfect vision was caused by severe congenital glaucoma. Therefore, he had to walk with the help of a cane.

Even so, he promised to give his best in his debut fight. He also asked his opponent not to underestimate him.

"I will give my best in the fight. Win, lose or draw. Boxing is a sport of close duels. So it works in my favour, but I will have a hard time seeing a few punches," he said.

"I hope he doesn't underestimate me because I was blind. He will pay for it if he really underestimates me. I had a knockout punch," he added.

Thomas currently trains three days a week. He also continues to strengthen his physique by lifting weights on certain days.
