JAKARTA - An Austrian tennis player, Dominic Thiem, was amazed by the candle statue of himself in badminton Tussauds. He finally saw the "flood" firsthand after waiting 1.5 years.

Thiem visited badminton Tussauds in Vienna on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, local time.

"Madame Tussauds is famous in the world for its candle statue, it is an honor because I am part of their great collection. Through the hard work of the whole team, I am very happy to see the final result," said Thiem, as reported by the official ATP Tour website.

The construction of the Thiem candle figure begins in January 2021 with a head and body measurement process that takes up to three hours.

With a sitting position, Thiem had to go through 250 data measurements from all the details of his body parts.

Not only that, the team from left Tussauds also took 180 photos from various angles. This is to ensure the Thiem candle statue has a precise final result and matches the original.

This process is carried out by maintaining a minimal position on the rotary table.

The statue on display wore original clothing and equipment as Thiem wore when competing at the US Open 2022.

Marketing Manager badminton Tussauds Wina, Lukas Rauscher, said he was happy and satisfied when he saw the Thiem statue which was about to be inaugurated. The museum often gets visitors' requests for Thiem to become one of the residents of badminton Tussauds Wina.

"We are happy to finally be able to make their dreams come true. We are proud of the great collaboration we have with Dominic," said Rauscher.

The Thiem statue was made through a strict process that was handled around 20 artists. Usually one statue takes about six months to complete, but the COVID-19 pandemic causes delays.

The artists insert every strand of hair one by one that takes six weeks. Thiem's eye ball is made with acrylic resin, with each eye slashing is painted with the hand, then added yarn to make blood vessels.

Instead of using makeup to create Thiem skin tone, oil paint is applied to a special brush wiretapping technique.

"Deprecated in wax is a major milestone in someone's career, and Dominic has achieved many things at such a young age," Raucher said.
