Mesut Ozil's Prayer For The Victims Of Malang Kanjuruhan Tragedy

JAKARTA - The tragedy at the Kanjuruhan Stadium in Malang caught the world's attention. A number of European clubs expressed their condolences.

Condolences were also conveyed by players from Germany of Turkish descent, Mesut Ozil. The player who has visited Indonesia also prayed for the victims of the tragedy in Kanjuruhan Malang.

The statement of condolences was conveyed by the Istanbul Basaksehir midfielder through a post on his Twitter account. The speech was delivered in Indonesian.

"My condolences to all the victims who died in the incident in Malang, Indonesia," Ozil wrote, as quoted by Antara.

"I pray for the victims to be placed in the most honorable place by God's side," he continued.

As previously reported, the tragedy of Kanjuruhan Malang began with the actions of Arema FC supporters who rushed into the field after their favorite team lost 2-3 to Persebaya Surabaya.

Police then fired tear gas inside the grounds and stands to disperse the crowd.

The fallen supporters created panic in the stadium area. The number of supporters who need medical assistance is not proportional to the number of medical personnel on standby at the Kanjuruhan Stadium.

Many supporters complained of shortness of breath from tear gas and being trampled when they tried to leave the stadium stands.
