Deschamps Urges Giroud To Solve His Problems At Chelsea For The National Team

JAKARTA - France coach Didier Deschamps has urged Olivier Giroud to solve his problems at Chelsea so that the player's future with the national team is not disturbed.

"Olivier Giroud knows that. His condition today cannot be allowed to drag on forever. Before March he will have to find a different atmosphere from today," Deschamps told French radio RTL ahead of the Nations League home match against Sweden on Tuesday.

Giroud has only made three appearances in the English Premier League this season, and he begins their Nations League group 3 match against Portugal on the bench on Saturday.

Giroud came on as a second half substitute in the 78th minute, replacing Anthony Martial.

However, Deschamps still believes in Giroud, who is the French national team's second top scorer with 42 goals in 104 appearances.

"I never give advice, just give an opinion. In the end, it's a player's decision," Deschamps said as quoted by Antara from Reuters on Monday.

"He has situations that are sometimes complicated to deal with. Today, the situation is not good for him. Will it stay the same or will it improve? It's up to him."

"He knows what I'm thinking even if I don't forget everything he has done (for the national team) and everything he can still do."

France secures the top spot in Group 3 with 13 points from five matches, thus qualifying for the last four rounds next year.
