Lewandowski's Motive For Moving To Barcelona: Wants To Prove He's Better Than Benzema

JAKARTA — Robert Lewandowski insisted on moving to Barcelona because he wanted to prove himself better than Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema. This was revealed by the player's former agent Cezary Kucharski.

Lewandowski is currently Barcelona's priority in the transfer market this summer. However, Bayern Munich continues to try to make it difficult for the Catalan team to realize their wishes.

"He wants to prove that he is better than Benzema, that's another reason [he wants] to go to Barcelona," Kucharski told Radio Ser, quoted by Marca on Tuesday.

Benzema is currently touted as one of the best strikers in the world. He performed well with Los Blancos last season and won the Spanish La Liga and the European Champions League.

The 34-year-old striker has a total of 44 goals and 15 assists in all competitions. Thanks to this achievement, he became one of the strongest candidates for this year's Ballon d'Or award.

"Lewandowski doesn't have dreams. For him, playing football is a job and he is very professional. Real Madrid and Barcelona are at the same level," Kucharski said.

The Poland international's desire to leave the Bavarian side continues to be a hot topic. He wanted to find a new challenge after spending most of his career with FC Hollywood.

Barcelona, ​​which is still hit by the financial crisis, welcomed the former Borussia Dortmund player's wishes. They have even submitted an offer of 35 million euros, equivalent to Rp549 billion, but that figure is still rejected by Bayern.

However, Kucharski believes that the deal will eventually materialize despite the club's continued efforts to keep their player.

“Barcelona and Lewandowski will fight for this signing. I think he will sign for Barcelona, ​​I think it is possible," he said.

Lewandowski moved to Bayern Munich in the winter of 2014. He is currently under contract with Bayern until June 2023.
